Sound Alliance Immigration Team Helps Secure Victory with King County Ordinance
King County Ordinance 2009-0393 passed with a vote of 5-4

This ordinance makes it clear that access to necessary services in King County will not be conditioned on citizenship, nationality, or legal resident status.

It sends the message to all King County residents that it is safe to report crimes, request help from law enforcement and use public health services without fear of profiling, questioning or detention. To see the King County Council's announcement, click here.

The Alliance is proud to have worked with a broad coalition of over 20 organizations brought together by El Comité Pro-Reforma Migratoria y Justicia Social and the Washington Immigrant Rights Action Coalition.

Sound Alliance institutions, working through the Immigration and Civil Rights Action Team, were unflagging  in their efforts over the past two years and made a huge impact on moving the Ordinance forward whenever it got bogged down. Leaders from six member institutions gathered over 150 signatures in support of the ordinance and arranged important meetings with their representatives on the King County Council. St. Jude's Parish alone gathered 85 signatures! Special recognition is especially due to the amazing work that CASA Latina members and staff have done to help achieve this victory.

Thank you all for all the work you did to achieve one of our key Alliance issues!
